List #27 | Films That Make Me Cry

The next list to make it into my Listography series is a collection of the films that have managed to break me down and make me cry. As I've gotten older I've found that the number of films that bring me to tears seems to have lessened considerably so the list of films that have made me actually cry isn't a very long one.

For now, here are the biggest offenders.

List #12 | Most Romantic Moments in Film

Firstly, I'd just like to say that I do not condone Valentine's Day in the slightest. I don't see the point in this holiday and rarely even acknowledge it.

That said, I'm not above using it for my own benefit, and so have decided to use it to address the 12th list from my Listography series, asking for the most romantic film scenes. While I don't enjoy today's commercial blah-fest I do enjoy soppy romances every now and then, so here are 10 of my favourite romantic moments from some of my favourite romance films.

List #29 | Best Movie Villains

Putting together my Favourite Movie Posters list earlier this week made me want to do another straight away. So here's my first 10 choices for the 29th list from the Film Listography book, looking at the best movie villains.

List #72 | Best Movie Posters

I've finally got around to continuing my Listography series based on Lisa Nola's book. After the collection of 71 lists that Nola has put together are a series of blank lined pages for you to come up with your own lists. Today's post is my first based upon a list of my own creation.

I'm a sucker for great film artwork and find that I very often will decide whether or not to watch some films based on the poster art. With this in mind I thought it would be fun to share with you some of my absolute favourite film posters.
As with my other lists I have limited myself to just 10 entries for now, but it was so easy to reach this goal that I can see myself posting another 10 for this list very soon.

For now here are some of my favourites...

The 100

For the last two-or-so months I've been flirting with the idea of putting together a top 100 list. I'd attempted this in the past and failed each time but after spending some time recently talking on here about some of my favourite films I felt that the blog would benefit from having a permanent list, and so this week I have spent most of my time out of work putting one together.

I present, The 100.

I have to stress that this is in no way definitive, each day that I spent working on this list a number of the entries lost and regained their places and it is partly due to this that I also decided not to try and order them. All of the films chosen are personal favourites or films that made me fall in love with cinema, but with every new film I watch there is obviously a chance that a new film could earn a spot. If I do alter the list at any point I will address the changes in my weekly pins post.

I would never attempt to create a list of the best films made, simply because I have not seen every film ever made. This list is just a collection of some of my favourites with an obvious bit of quality control applied as well. There are countless films that I still wish were in there (no films by the Coen's made the cut for example, simply because I haven't seen them recently enough to weigh them up against the others, and I struggled to choose many of Wes Anderson's films over one another) but for now, this is my 100.

As I love all of these films I'm always up for talking about them so be sure to comment here or on the list's page to let me know whether you agree with my choices, disagree with them, or even hate them.

List #21 | My Guilty Pleasures

Next up in my Listography series is the 21st list from Lisa Nola's book.

This list asks for my most embarrassing guilty pleasures, but as there aren't that many that I'm actually embarrassed by I just went for films that a generally not considered that great but which I have a soft spot for. This list was a lot of fun to come up with and as I don't exactly seek out films that I'll be embarrassed to enjoy I think I'll be able to put together another 10 pretty soon.

But for now, here are the first 10 entries for my biggest guilty pleasures.

List #9 | Favourite Animated Films

Here we go, a day later than intended, with the first in my Listography series.

This is the 9th list from the book. As I said in my earlier post I have limited myself to 10 films so that I can let each list grow over the years as I watch more films.

So here are my current Top 10 Animated Films, in no particular order (except for the first).

Film Listography: A Life in Movie Lists

A few months ago I stumbled upon the book Listography: Your Life in Lists by Lisa Nola in Urban Outfitters and after flicking through the compilation of lists to fill out I decided that I would one day buy it. Fast forward to a recent trip to Manchester's Trafford Centre, where me and my friends Leigh-Anne and Rosita found a more specialised edition of that Listography book, one focusing on films. Needless to say I didn't walk away from Waterstones planning to one day buy that book. No, I walked out with a plastic bag swinging at my side.

Film Listography: A Life in Movie Lists is a collection of 71 film-related lists to fill out with an additional 11 blank lists for you to customise yourself. The topics range from the usual Favourite Films, Directors and Actors to the much more specific 'film characters that remind you of someone you know', 'unforgettable death scenes' and 'quotes you'll never forget'. Each List contains 20 lines, but I plan on using my neatest, smallest handwriting to allow room at least double that as I continue to broaden my film catalogue.

As an ongoing series on this blog I plan on filling out these lists publicly on here. For every list that I begin I will create post on here explaining why certain films were chosen and why others weren't. I have decided, as I am nowhere near having watched enough films to finitely complete each list, that I will for now limit each list to ten entries. This will allow each one to grow as I continue to watch films daily. The lists will also be updated on the Lists Page of my Letterboxd account.

I plan on uploading my first List later today, and encourage anyone reading this to seek out Film Listography, or any of Lisa Nola's other books as they really are a great purchase.
