Happy Belated Pancake Day!
To celebrate, yesterday at our house we had a Pancake feast. We spent the entire evening over the hob making masses of the things, thick and thin, followed by a buffet while we watched a film. There were only a small amount of kitchen disasters, with a few pancakes suffering unplanned deformities as a result. They were all yummy and we had a great laugh making them all.
Here are the four variations I had, Bacon, Red Velvet, Chocolate Oreo, and Berry Compote.
Did you have a good Pancake Day?

Food and Short Films
Yesterday evening was spent with four friends having a meal at our local cocktail bar and then moving on to a screening of highlights from the Ann Arbor 50th Film Festival. The meal was delicious as it always is. I had a Sirloin Steak Sandwich Bloomer, with mushrooms, caramelised onions and seasoned chips, with multiple Fruit Salad Cocktails (Melon, Raspberry and Strawberry!) and a mint ice cream and brownie plant pot for dessert.
The seven films lasted only an hour and fifteen minutes, and were a mix of animated and live action shorts crossing genres. Some weren't particularly to my taste which was disappointing as I'm a huge fan of short films and have seen some truly great ones, but they were all interesting to watch. My favourite was the last, a 13 minute long animation called Birdboy, which was funny, sad and beautifully animated, and can be seen here.
Overall it was a fun way to spend a Wednesday evening watching short films and enjoying some great grub!

Starting Twenty-Thirteen
So here I am, trying to make my way back into a consistent blogging routine.
Since my last proper blog back at Halloween, I have sat an exam, handed in a load of essays and finished the first semester of my final year at Uni. A scary situation which was seen off by some great visits to the cinema, and an amazing meal at a cocktail bar in town.

Anyone who has seen my Letterboxd recently will know that I've also been watching a considerable number of films over the past few months, more than I imagine I ever have in such a short space of time. Although writing full reviews of these films is a laborious task I'm hoping I'll be able to get enough posted to keep this blog from slipping completely into place to just ramble about my life.
I've had a lovely Christmas at home with the family, and treated myself to loads of goodies that I'm sure will eventually be featured on here. I then turned 22, which seems a little surreal to be honest, I'm sure the old age will begin to kick in soon enough. New Years was a little more dramatic, after a quiet Eve with the family, I burnt my hand quite badly on a heated plate on New Years Day. I felt incredibly stupid and the blisters on my fingers made essay writing a complete terror, but they're now almost fully healed thankfully. It's typical of me to get my first serious injury of the year before the first day of it was over.
My most achievable resolution for the year is to keep this blog constantly updated and I intend to make it a priority. Here's to an exciting and hopefully fun-filled 2013. I survived the supposed end of the world, so I'm gonna make this next year great.

Of Apples and Landmarks, Day 1
As anyone who knows me is probably sick of hearing, and as I've mentioned numerous times on this blog, this summer myself and my friend Rosita spent 10 days in New York. Admittedly I intended to relay the events of each day on here a lot sooner. But with moving into my new University house, and staring my final year of study I've found myself with a lot less time than I'd hoped for. So here I, belatedly, go.

We kicked off our first day by visiting Ground Zero. I should mention that up until this point I had (perhaps semi-conciously) been unaware of the plans for the Ground Zero memorial site and so arrived completely unaware of what I was going to see. What architect Michael Arad has created is two stunning fountain/pool hybrids surrounded by bronze parapets into which are engraved the 2,983 names of the victims. Being at the site was unexplainably surreal, but so peaceful. The sound of the water, and even the smell, create an extremely calm and relaxing place to be, which was surprising considering it's being surrounded on all sides by the loud, busy city. I could have stayed there for hours, it really is a wonderful memorial.
After Ground Zero we spent some time simply soaking up the city and visiting shops, one of which was completely dedicated to Halloween. Now, as in a few posts time I'm sure you will find out, I bloody LOVE Halloween, and so to see a store that all year round is dedicated to the holiday was great fun. The store also had disposable plates and similar party related cutlery in almost every colour known to man, a trend that Britain definitely needs to catch on to, small things small minds and all that! For lunch we headed to a great place called Pop's of Brooklyn, where I had an incredible Berry Chicken Salad with a side of the best onion rings I have had, ever. We then made our way back towards the hotel via the High Line. An old freight rail line converted to a public park, the High Line is a wonderfully scenic route which had a halfway point with great food and drink stands and featured numerous pieces of beautiful art on the walls of the surrounding buildings. To finish the day off we headed to the nearest cinema for a showing of Total Recall, where we sheepishly discovered that we had to purchase tickets from a box office outside of the main building and found that some Americans are fond of leaving the cinema before the trailers are even over.
It was a great first day surrounded by some beautiful scenery, topped off with amazing food and decent film.
